Trinkets

Preface:- Trinkets are the small ornaments/pieces of jewellery, that we give undue importance over ourselves. We think they have some magical power in them to make us successful and when we lose them we get distressed. A lucky charm is an example of such a trinket. This happened with a dear friend of mine, from which incident I ended up writing this...

Some people I almost feared,
Gave me a trinket I most revered.
The trinket caused, what I conquered,
That otherwise, I'd had squandered.

The token had a ruby studded,
My confidence, I knew, was flooded.
It gave me that extra bit of zeal,
Which, devoid of it, I could seldom feel.

To where I went and back from it,
I took the piece to every treat.
And as did my "Guided" ventures exhaust,
I found one day that the trinket was lost!

Lost wasn't just the souvenir I had,
Gone was the shelter, my soul used to clad.
I felt desolate, devastated, in grief,
I knew this dismay wasn't ‘gonna’ be brief.

I was at my nadir this time,
After pulses and peaks of regaling times.
I gave away to the fate, contrite,
Nothing was lucid, no hope, no light.

I didn't realized all the success was mine.
That a scarlet rock with it's glittery shine,
couldn't have propelled me towards my prime.
Did not deserve credit for my golden time.

Lot's of things conspired my progress,
Family and Friends, I'm lucky to possess,
Definitely my resolute, persevering toil,
And, finally, God who didn't let me spoil.

At this point, I leave the conclusion to thee,
To those who are normal, as normal as me.
But those who regard such trinkets over themselves,
I am sure you hurt all. Including yourselves.
